Toolkit for implementation of the WHO intrapartum care and immediate postnatal care recommendations in health-care facilities

Book excerpt: This Toolkit describes a five-step process to support implementation of the WHO recommendations on intrapartum and postnatal care in health-care facilities. This process draws on theory, frameworks and evidence from the behavioural and implementation sciences, and aims to close the gap between WHO’s care recommendations and current policies and health-care practices. This Toolkit provides detailed information and resources to assist policy-makers, health-care facility managers, and implementation teams to identify appropriate implementation strategies, to ensure recommendations are adopted with the ultimate goal of improving maternal, fetal and newborn outcomes. The Toolkit can also be used to implement other recommendations or to improve aspects of health-care beyond intrapartum and postnatal care.
