Book excerpt: This report results from a contract tasking Institute for Metal Physics as follows: Reinforcement of a titanium matrix by TiB particles leads to increased tensile strength, creep resistance, Young's modulus, hardness and wear resistance of the composite material. This study will develop a scientific background of processing Ti/TiB in-situ composite material through ingot melting followed by hot working and heat treatment. The aim of the present study is to establish the potential of a melting approach to produce discontinuously reinforced Ti/TiB composites with a homogeneous distribution of fine TiB particles for improved mechanical properties at reduced cost.
