Book excerpt: Maguvark Academy starts out with two mysterious people walking around the streets at night and leaving their child and countrys heir at the doorstep of a family of strangers, for their childs safety. Then they meet up with a group of their friends at the Krests family home to sign a contract. Years later, the Sherwoods and the Krests go on a vacation to the beach for the summer. Since the first day of the trip, the children notice strange happenings around them. First of all, Alex and Ellen encounter a butterfly with a broken wing, which appears to heal itself almost instantly. That night, on their way to a restaurant, the children are carried out of the Krests family car and over a forest, only to land in a lake which vanishes shortly after theyve crawled out of it. If things couldnt get any weirder, the childrens clothes dry up ridiculously fast after they noticed the lakes disappearance. After being split up, the children run into strangely-dressed students who help them find their way back to each other. They are then led out of the woods by a strange creature which Alyssa claims is a Selenkra. At the restaurant, Colin and Alex have a heated argument and Alex bursts into flames. The flames die out as suddenly as theyd appeared, and Alex remains unharmed. The following day, they meet a woman named Selena Maguvark who brings them to Luneria and gives them a mission to find Luna Maguvark in the human world. Alex, Ellen, Jen, Colin and Ron discover their true origins and their possible destiny as Lunerias heroes in a nearing battle... Maguvark Academy is probably like Harry Potter (with a twenty-first century twist). It has its own storyline, but events such as a young child being left at the doorstep of a non-magical family, use of spells and attending a school for young wizards and witches might remind readers of Harry Potter. The settings are also very different, as Maguvark Academy takes place mostly in Cambodia rather than in the United Kingdom the two countries are very different.
