Book excerpt: Sometimes the most life-changing experiences come when we least expect it. For National Transportation Safety Board investigator Dan Alexander, it's a tragic accident in the Midwest that killed three people-including two young boys. Dan wasn't expecting to find anything positive in his latest investigation. He's been tasked with discovering the cause of a train crash in the American heartland, but he can't keep his mind on the job. After a rough divorce, he began using alcohol and pornography to fill the hole in his heart. He's lost and miserable, but he doesn't know how to escape his depression and embrace his true identity. Help comes in the form of three strangers. As Dan delves deeper into the secrets of the small community and the true cause of the wreck, he grows close to the colorful Casey, enthusiastic Lydia, and gentle Samuel. They each teach him something new about his true identity and together lead him on a spiritual journey into the depths of his own heart. Dan's investigation unearths more than one amazing revelation, and in his darkest hour, he remembers the wise words of his new friends. But is it enough to change his heart and open his eyes to the truth? -------------------- A word from the author... My name is David Craig Griffith, author of I AM BEST, a unique recovery resource available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats. I've been a pastor for over thirty years and have worked with men and women in recovery who wrestle with a variety of destructive addictions. I have discovered that for every person who enters into the work of recovery there are hundreds, if not thousands who do not. For years, I myself lived with a sexual and alcohol addiction that I thought I could cover and control through hard work and spirituality. It wasn't until I was forced into disclosure by my family that I finally sought and found the help I needed. Three years ago, I became burdened for the innumerable individuals and families like me and mine who live with addiction and are unaware that recovery is possible. In their present condition most of these precious folks will never darken the door of a professional counselor, nor will they buy and read a self-help book. But I have discovered they are not completely out of reach. That is why I wrote, I AM BEST, a suspense novel in the genre of transformational fiction. Transformational fiction is a literary style that allows the reader to follow a story in which a character undergoes significant change. The story gets inside the reader's head because the reader is inside the character's own thoughts-they journey together. Transformational fiction is an especially effective tool for helping readers realize that they are not unique in their struggles. It does not guarantee that he or she will choose recovery for themselves, but it effectively gets beyond the verbal, logical explanations that the left brain offers as reasons to minimize, justify or deny the nature and extent of their problems. The power of compelling story encourages the relational right brain to operate as it was designed, upon trust and relational joy. The approach to recovery I use is a faith-based model that employs attachment theory, brain neuroscience, and joy-based recovery principles. It guides the protagonist to a crisis of faith where he must yield his failed WORST identity for one that is BEST. The reader is made aware that his or her normal may be something far less than life was meant to be, and shown a path to something better. I hope you will consider using I AM BEST as a resource for yourself or someone you know who is stuck in denial, or perhaps just anyone who might simply benefit from story over an informational format.
