Book excerpt: This report presents a statistical overview of the current housing conditions of selected races: White, Black; American Indian, Eskimo, or Aleut; and Asian or Pacific Islander households. Data are also shown for Hispanic-origin households. Generally, the report is based on data collected from the American Housing Survey (AHS) for the United States in 1987, a biennial national sample survey of approximately 55, 800 housing unites conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Since the AHS does not obtain data on the individual groups comprising the Asian or Pacific Islander and the Hispanic-origin populations, data from the 1980 Public-Use Microdata Sample, a 1-percent sample of the United States population as enumerated in the 1980 Census, are included in this publication.
