Book excerpt: The worst case achievable utilization of the proposed scheme is found to be 33%. This is comparable to that of the optimal (global) allocation scheme. The worst case achievable utilization is useful for network management. But it does not provide any information on the network behavior when the load is beyond the threshold. We derive a more general performance measure called the guarantee probability. This is the probability that for a given traffic load a set of synchronous messages can be guaranteed. We develop a numerical method to compute exact values of guarantee probability. An approximate closed-form expression for guarantee probability is also derived. We found that the network can perform reasonably well even when the real-time traffic is significantly higher than the worst case threshold."
