From the Mountains to the Sea

Book excerpt: This book is one of a series that were designed to increase students' reading skills and their knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture. It was originally written by the faculty in a Kamehameha reading program. This book aims to share what life was like for early Hawaiian ancestors to show where and how they lived, and their relationship to the natural environment. In addition to the chapter topics, this book share information about the Marquesans and Tahitians, ahupuaʻa, uka, kula, kai, nā Akua, heiau, Kūʻula, ʻAumākua and omens, fish, kapa making, featherwork, hula, and musical instruments.
