Two crews of five subjects served in each of four continuous-work/recovery conditions in a partially counterbalanced order. It is suggested that 6-8 hours is the minimum amount of sleep required for the recovery of performance from the effects of 36 hours of continuous work and sleep loss. (Modified author abstract).
