Book excerpt: Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) confined columns have been developed for new construction rehabilitation of concrete structures such as piers or piles. The design-oriented confinement model is predominant in designing FRP confined concrete columns. The design model is directly based on interpretation of the experimental results. In this study, one model is presented for reinforced concrete columns externally reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer wraps using finite element method adopted by ANSYS software. The finite element model was developed using concrete and the three dimensional layer elements for the fiber reinforced polymer composites. The results obtained from the finite element analysis were compared with the experimental data for respective concrete column with different conditions. For the analysis, load deflection, stress-strain relationship, and performance characteristics of GFRP wrapped column were also studied. The prediction of ANSYS model agreed with the experimental results.
