Book excerpt: This essay critically examines the impact of United States sanctions against the Islamic State of Iran. The articles focus on how Iran-USA conflict have strained, its economy and their relationship with other Middle East countries and those from different parts of the world, especially China, and Russia. It evaluates the narrative on how these sanctions have been instrumental in awakening the authoritarian Islamic state, rather than minimizing its strength in the Middle East and its nuclear programs. The strained relationship between America and Iran has affected their allies more than it does to them; countries such as South Arabia and Iraq have been paying dearly for their association with America. However, the sanctions seemed to have strengthened Iran's conflict with the West and cemented the Islamic State's power structure among the Arab nations.
