Book excerpt: The biography of Arthur Ransome has been written elsewhere, and will not be repeated here. For the purposes at hand, all we need to know is that from 1915 until 1924 he reported on the Russian Revolution and its aftermath. At first, he acted as correspondent for the Daily News and then The Manchester Guardian from October 1919. During this time he was one of the few journalists in Russia to experience and report events first hand and used these insights to publish three works: -A Letter to America (1918) -Six Weeks in Russia (1919) -The Crisis in Russia (1921) Since then, much has been written about the October Revolution and from many perspectives, but none of it in the heat of history in the making. It is for this reason, that all three works are being published together in 2017, the centenary year of the events recounted, when many will seek to present opinion as history.
