Book excerpt: In England, there is an enchanted wood, which is owned by Lady Lock. Lady Lock is a good witch, and she has made the wood a sanctuary for all magical creatures, even to giving boy leprechauns sanctuary against the girls of their own species. The reason the boys needed help in keeping out of the clutches of girl leprechaun’s is because, as soon as a girl leprechaun comes of age to marry, they are given the gift of a stare by their mothers, which will make any un-married male do exactly what she tells him. However, once a girl is wed, she needs no help in getting her husband to do exactly what she tells him. The reason for this, is the night the girl is wed, she grows overnight to be two feet tall, (sixty centimetres) from just six inches, (fifteen centimetres), which completely dwarfs a boy, who does not grow to anymore than one foot six inches, ( forty-five centimetres). This is the story of ten such boy leprechauns, who found themselves in the wood, some from out of choice, and others from just blind luck. It also tells of how many of the girl leprechauns got their man, and of three boy leprechauns who went to the wood, but not for sanctuary, but to get their hands on the others coins. We also get to meet a very strange character, who is a member of the tidy police, and we get to join in an epic battle between the witch who owns the wood, and her archrival, who just happens to be a four-wart witch.
