Book excerpt: At least 1mm bone around dental implant collar is essential for long term functional results of implant treatment. Collagen membrane and slow resorption bone substitute mixed 1:1 with autogenous bone chips is recommended to use for GBR and is well documented. Nevertheless, despite big amount of graft is placed, the bone does not grow enough in the buccal site and small implant dehiscence is seen very often. One of the reason may be a big pressure to implant collar from tissues, other u2013 thin tissues by itself. Some authors suggest placing 2 mm healing abutment and to move soft tissue pressure away from implant neck. In addition, it was shown that mucosal tissue thickening during implant placement may increase soft tissue thickness. Thus, it is possible that using 2 mm healing abutment may lead to appropriate bone grow around implant neck and acellular dermal matrix may change collagen membrane as a barrier and simultaneously thicken the tissue.
