Book excerpt: Excerpt from A System of Geography, Ancient and Modern, Vol. 3 of 6 Richard I. Was too much engaged with the crusades to pay attention to the affairs of Ireland. During this and several succeeding reigns, that kingdom was a scene of confusion and anarchy, with the additional grievance that, in the reign of Edward I. It was invaded by the Scots. In the year 1394, Richard II. Passed over to Ireland with an army, and by gentle measures endeavoured to conciliate the affections of the princes and nobility.
