Book excerpt: John Earle (1612-1660), with his wife, Mary, and three children, immigrated in the mid-1600s from Nye, England to Northumberland (now Westmoreland) County, Virginia. Some sons later moved to land in Frederick County, Virginia. In 1787, Elias Earl (1762-1823), direct descendant in the fifth generation, married Frances Wilton Robinson and moved to establish the town of Centerville on land that became Anderson County, South Carolina. The home plantation became known as Evergreen. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, California and elsewhere.
